Islamic scholar Sheikh Ahmad Gumi has claimed that foreign powers are supporting terrorists operating within Nigeria.

Speaking in an interview with BBC Hausa Service, Gumi said recent patterns of attacks across the country point to external backing for armed groups.

He noted that the current wave of violent incidents contradicts earlier signs of improvement in national security. According to him, the once-dangerous Abuja–Kaduna highway had become significantly safer in recent months, and farmers in Birnin Gwari, Kaduna State — who previously abandoned their fields due to threats — had returned to their farms before the fresh escalation of attacks.

Gumi argued that the sudden spike in violence suggests deeper issues that must be investigated. He urged the Nigerian government to intensify intelligence gathering, strengthen diplomatic efforts, and thoroughly examine any foreign connections that may be contributing to the nation’s insecurity.
