Rivers State Governor, Siminalayi Fubara, has withdrawn from the All Progressives Congress (APC) governorship primary election in the state.

The governor announced his decision in a statement he personally signed on Wednesday. He also pledged support for whoever secures the party’s ticket ahead of the governorship election.

Fubara described the decision as difficult. He, however, said he remained loyal to the APC and committed to the party’s success in the state.

“After deep reflection and extensive consultations with my family, friends, and associates, I have taken the difficult but necessary decision to withdraw from the APC governorship primaries.

“I do so with a full heart and with a firm commitment to support whoever emerges as the candidate of our great party,” Fubara said.

The governor expressed appreciation to his supporters for their loyalty and sacrifices throughout the political process. He admitted that many supporters might feel disappointed over his withdrawal.

He also explained that his recent silence was deliberate and motivated by what he called the greater interest of Rivers State. According to him, he had faced intense pressure and difficult decisions in recent weeks.

Fubara thanked the APC leadership for giving him the opportunity to participate in the process. He also appreciated President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for his encouragement and support.

The governor urged party members and supporters to remain united and focused. He stressed that the APC remains a political family with a shared vision for the future of the state.
