The Nigerian Navy has intensified efforts to tackle cross-border fuel smuggling following the recovery of more than 6,000 litres of Premium Motor Spirit (PMS) during an operation in Lagos State.
According to the Navy, the operation was carried out along the Badagry-Ajara axis by personnel of the Forward Operating Base (FOB), Badagry, after receiving intelligence reports about suspected smugglers operating in the area.
In a statement signed by Captain Abiodun Folorunsho, the Navy explained that the operation was part of ongoing efforts to disrupt illegal fuel smuggling routes and stop the unlawful movement of petroleum products through unauthorized border channels.
“During The Operation, Naval Personnel Discovered About 240 Jerrycans Of 25 Litres Each Of PMS Concealed And Prepared For Illegal Movement Through The Badagry Border Waterways,” The Statement Said.
The recovered fuel products were later evacuated to the Forward Operating Base in Badagry for further action in line with official procedures.
The Navy stated that the operation reflects its continued commitment to dismantling networks involved in cross-border smuggling, especially the illegal transportation of petroleum products through waterways and coastal routes.
It also reaffirmed its determination to maintain pressure on criminal groups operating along strategic border areas and prevent economic sabotage within Nigeria’s maritime environment.
