The All Progressives Congress (APC) in Gombe State has selected Jamilu Gwamna as its consensus candidate for the 2027 governorship election.
The decision puts Gwamna ahead of Isa Pantami, a former minister of communications and digital economy.
In a statement released on Sunday, Ismaila Misilli, director-general of press affairs at the Gombe Government House, said the choice was made during an enlarged stakeholders’ meeting. The meeting was chaired by Governor Inuwa Yahaya, who also leads the party in the state.
Misilli explained that the gathering approved consensus candidates for other elective positions. These include the three senatorial districts, six seats in the house of representatives, and all 24 constituencies in the state house of assembly.
According to him, the meeting drew attendance from governorship aspirants, those seeking national and state assembly seats, members of the state working committee, party elders, and other stakeholders.
He said the adoption of consensus candidates followed “extensive consultations spearheaded by the governor and party stakeholders, aimed at deepening internal cohesion, minimising friction, and projecting a united front ahead of the elections.”
Misilli added that the process builds on earlier consultations initiated by Governor Yahaya. He said the governor had held several meetings with party elders and stakeholders to strengthen unity and organisation within the APC in the state.
The party also named its senatorial candidates. Mohammed Deba will represent Gombe Central, Jerry Damara will contest in Gombe South, while Muhammadu Inuwa Yahaya will run for Gombe North.
For the house of representatives, the APC adopted Usman Kumo for Akko, Inuwa Garba for Yamaltu/Deba, Ali Isa for Balanga/Billiri, Fatima Bello for Kaltungo/Shongom, Saddam Bello for Gombe/Kwami/Funakaye, and Jamilu Shabewa for Dukku/Nafada.
Misilli noted that the consensus arrangement forms part of efforts to ensure unity, stability, and electoral success for the party ahead of the 2027 general elections.
