Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf of Kano State has condemned in strong terms the brutal killing of two young Kano indigenes, Barhama Suleiman and Jamilu Ahmad, who were murdered in Makurdi, Benue State, on Monday night.
In a statement issued by his spokesperson, Sunusi Bature Dawakin Tofa, the governor described the attack as “barbaric, senseless, and unacceptable,” calling for urgent action to bring the perpetrators to justice. The victims were reportedly profiled and attacked around 11:00 p.m. by yet-to-be-identified hoodlums.
“It is with a heavy heart and deep sense of loss that we announce the passing of two promising sons of Kano. They were innocent, peace-loving citizens whose only crime was exercising their constitutional right to live and work in any part of Nigeria,” Governor Yusuf stated.
The governor expressed deep sympathy to the bereaved families and the broader Kano community, especially extending condolences to prominent Islamic scholar, Sheikh Ibrahim Khalil, who is the father of the two victims.
To honor the deceased, Governor Yusuf announced he would personally lead a high-powered delegation, including family members, to the funeral prayers scheduled to hold today at the National Mosque in Abuja.
Describing the killings as a tragedy not only for the families but also for the entire state and nation, the governor urged citizens to remain calm while security agencies investigate the incident.
“This government will not rest until justice is served. We call for calm and restraint as we work closely with security agencies at all levels and the Benue State Government to bring the murderers to justice,” he said.
He further reaffirmed the Kano State Government’s commitment to protecting its citizens across Nigeria and stressed the importance of unity and peaceful coexistence.
“Nigeria belongs to all of us. Every citizen has the right to live, move, and thrive in any part of this country without fear of discrimination or violence,” Governor Yusuf added.
Investigations are currently ongoing, and the public has been urged to remain peaceful and law-abiding as the government seeks answers and justice for the slain youths.
