Gunmen have abducted an unconfirmed number of students from a Catholic school in Niger State, sparking renewed concerns over the safety of schools in the region.
The incident occurred in the early hours of the morning when heavily armed attackers stormed the school and seized several students. While the exact number of abducted students has not yet been established, authorities say efforts are underway to gather accurate information and secure their release.
Confirming the incident to TVC News, the Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO) for Niger State stated that security operatives have been deployed to the area and are currently conducting search-and-rescue operations.
He assured the public that the police, in collaboration with local vigilante groups and other security agencies, are working tirelessly to track down the attackers and ensure the safe return of the abducted students.
The latest abduction adds to a series of similar attacks on schools within northern Nigeria in recent years, raising fears among parents and education stakeholders. Residents have called on both state and federal authorities to strengthen security around schools and vulnerable communities.
