Veteran Nollywood actress Ireti Doyle has finally spoken about her divorce from her ex-husband, Patrick Doyle, describing the experience as painful.
The actress, who first announced the separation in 2023 without giving details, explained in a recent interview that she chose to remain silent because her private life is not for public consumption.
According to her, only close family and friends deserve any explanation about what happened in her marriage.
“First of all you didn’t hear anything because it is none of your business. Two people come together to get married, there’s a celebration. Sadly, unfortunately something went wrong and you could no longer continue the life journey together,” she said.
Ireti stressed that the public is not entitled to details about her personal life, no matter how interested they may be.
“The only people you owe explanation to at all, are those family and friends that gathered on day one. You see this larger audience that you are performing for, they do not care,” she added.
She also made it clear that she would never allow herself to be used for attention or media traffic.
“God forbid because I will never knowingly give myself up as a click bait. The end of any relationship, talk less of long time marriage, is painful,” she said.
Despite the breakup, both Ireti and her ex-husband have continued to maintain professionalism in their careers.
