Iranian Foreign Minister Seyed Abbas Araghchi has issued a strong warning to UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer, saying that allowing British military bases to be used for US-Israeli operations against Iran puts British lives at risk.
In a post on X on Friday, Araghchi criticized Starmer for involving the UK in military action, calling it a role of a “participant in aggression” and insisting it contradicts the wishes of the British public.
“The vast majority of the British people don’t want any part in the Israel-US war on Iran,” he wrote.
He added, “Ignoring his own people, Mr. Starmer is putting British lives in danger by allowing UK bases to be used for aggression against Iran. Iran will exercise its right to self-defence.”
The warning comes after reports that the UK has granted the United States permission to operate from its military installations to target Iranian-linked threats in the Strait of Hormuz, a strategic maritime route.
The approval follows criticism from former US President Donald Trump, who labeled NATO allies as “cowards” for not contributing warships to secure the waterway.
Araghchi’s statement signals rising tension between Iran and the UK, highlighting the potential risks to civilians if the UK continues to permit foreign military operations from its territory.
