Kano State has made a historic leap in Nigeria’s 2025 Subnational Climate Governance Ranking, moving from 35th place in 2024 to 4th position—one of the most significant improvements recorded nationwide.
This achievement, announced by Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf’s spokesperson, Sunusi Bature Dawakin Tofa, highlights the administration’s strong focus on environmental sustainability. Key initiatives driving the progress include the Kano State Climate Change Policy, renewable energy deployment in public institutions, urban greening, afforestation, and erosion control efforts.
At the ranking’s unveiling in Abuja, Dr. Dahiru Hashim, Commissioner for Environment and Climate Change, received the recognition on behalf of the Governor. Samantha Harrison of the British High Commission presented the certificate.
Governor Yusuf thanked the Federal Ministry of Environment, development partners, and the Society for Planet and Prosperity for their support, reaffirming Kano’s commitment to a greener, more climate-resilient future.
