A Kano Magistrate Court has ordered police to investigate Daily Nigerian publisher, Jafar Jafar, over alleged criminal defamation against Hon. Abdullahi Ibrahim Rogo, Director General of Protocol, Kano Government House.

The case, filed before Chief Magistrate Abdul’aziz M. Habib of Court No. 15, Nomansland, accuses Jafar and one Audu Umar of publishing false and malicious stories describing Rogo as a “thieving aide” to Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf.

The controversial reports, published on August 22 and 25, 2025, alleged that ₦6.5 billion was traced to Rogo and that the Protocol Directorate under ex-Governor Ganduje spent ₦20 billion in three months. Rogo insists the publications were politically motivated lies aimed at destroying his image.

The court has directed the Assistant Inspector General of Police, Zone One, Kano, to carry out a full investigation. Rogo has also filed a separate civil case at the State High Court seeking damages.

The Kano government has dismissed the corruption allegations as baseless propaganda.
