LThe Kano State Government has dismissed reports alleging the diversion of ₦6.5 billion from the state treasury, describing them as “false, malicious, and politically motivated.”

In a statement issued on Monday by Sanusi Bature DawakinTofa, Director-General of Media and Publicity at Government House, the state government said the allegations, first published by Daily Nigerian on August 22, were part of a “sponsored smear campaign” by opposition elements seeking to undermine Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf’s administration ahead of the 2027 elections.

The controversy centers on the Director-General of Protocol, Government House, Alh. Abdullahi Ibrahim Rogo, who has been linked to an alleged misappropriation now before the High Court. The government, however, stressed that the Directorate of Protocol operates strictly within budgetary provisions and legal frameworks, handling logistics, welfare, and official itineraries of the governor and visiting dignitaries.

“Every cash outflow into Ministries, Departments, and Agencies is properly budgeted with clear codes. No individual handles public funds without designated purpose. The allegations being peddled are nothing more than a work of fiction,” the statement said.

The Yusuf-led administration accused the opposition of weaponizing the digital media space with misinformation, recalling what it described as the “reckless governance” of former Governor Abdullahi Umar Ganduje, whom it alleged spent over ₦20 billion through the Protocol Directorate in just three months before leaving office in May 2023.

The statement further highlighted past scandals under the Ganduje administration, including the widely circulated “dollar video,” alleged land grabbing, and foreign property acquisitions.

While reaffirming its commitment to accountability and transparency, the Kano State Government warned opposition figures against deliberate misinformation campaigns, cautioning that it would not hesitate to seek legal redress against those attempting to tarnish its image.

“This administration remains fully focused on delivering good governance, protecting public resources, and improving the lives of citizens. No amount of fabricated allegations or propaganda will derail our resolve,” the statement added.

The government emphasized that the matter remains before a competent court and will be determined in due course.
