A High Court sitting in Kano on Tuesday ordered the remand of Mr. Ogugua Christopher, owner of Asaba Orphanage Home in Delta State, over allegations of kidnapping and trafficking of several children from Kano.
The defendant, who resides in Asaba, Delta State, is being prosecuted alongside two co-defendants, Hauwa Abubakar and Nkechi Odlyne, on a 15-count charge bordering on conspiracy, kidnapping, and child trafficking.
The charges are in violation of Sections 97 and 273 of the Kano State Penal Code, as well as Section 32(5) of the Children and Young Person’s Law of Kano State.
According to the prosecution, the trio allegedly conspired to abduct and transport minors from Kano to other parts of the country under questionable circumstances.
The presiding judge ordered that the three defendants be remanded at a correctional facility pending further hearings.
The matter has been adjourned to a later date for the commencement of trial.
Authorities say investigations are ongoing, and more details are expected to emerge as the case progresses.
