A Lagos Magistrates’ Court has sentenced fourteen individuals for stealing cables and vandalizing property at the construction site of Terminal 1, Murtala Muhammed International Airport.
The group was arrested on April 20, 2026, around 7:00 p.m. Security personnel from the Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN), supported by the Joint Military Task Force (JMTF) and other agencies, carried out the operation. Intelligence reports guided the coordinated effort, leading to the swift apprehension of the suspects.
The defendants faced multiple charges. The court imposed one month imprisonment on the first count, six months on the second, and twelve months on the third. The sentences will run concurrently. One defendant challenged the charges, and the matter was adjourned to June 16 for further proceedings.
In a separate case, two individuals were arraigned for allegedly stealing alcohol. Both initially pleaded guilty but later disputed parts of the prosecution’s claims. The court adjourned their matter to June 30 for continuation.
A juvenile linked to a similar offence also appeared in court. Authorities confirmed that the minor has been handed back to the police for processing under juvenile justice procedures.
The convictions highlight the government’s determination to protect critical infrastructure at Nigeria’s busiest airport. FAAN and security agencies have intensified surveillance and enforcement measures to deter theft and vandalism.
