Nigerian singer Ahmed Ololade, popularly known as Asake, has revealed that his relationship with his father became strained after he decided to pursue music.
Speaking in a recent interview with YouTuber Korty EO, the “Sungba” crooner said his father strongly opposed his decision to go into music, despite how close they were while he was growing up.
“My dad and I were so close when I was younger,” he said. “But it got to a time when I wanted to leave home to do what I’m doing now but my father said ‘No.’ I left regardless.”
Asake explained that he eventually went against his father’s wishes and left home to chase his dream in music.
Recall that in March 2025, his father publicly accused him of neglect and abandonment, which sparked widespread reactions online. However, the situation was later resolved, with the singer reconciling with his father and taking responsibility for his welfare.
The singer also opened up about the challenges he faced in the early days of his career, especially with show promoters who doubted his style of music.
According to him, many promoters rejected him because he sang mostly in Yoruba.
He, however, credited his resilience for his eventual success, noting that he refused to change his sound despite the rejection and is grateful he stayed true to his style.
