The National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS) has said the new tax law will help improve revenue generation while preventing imbalance and unfair tax pressure on only a few people.

NANS announced that it will now work with the Federal Government and the National Revenue Service (NRS) to educate the public on the provisions of the law. The association also passed a vote of confidence on the Executive Chairman of the NRS, Zacch Adedeji, and commended President Bola Tinubu for what it described as policies that are friendly to students.

As a result of these decisions, NANS officially called off its planned nationwide protest that was scheduled to hold on January 14, 2025.

“That, consequent upon the above resolutions, NANS hereby calls off the proposed nationwide protest earlier scheduled for 14th January, 2025,” Oladoja said.

The Expanded National Executive Council (ENEC) meeting was attended by student leaders from across the country. Participants included presidents and senate presidents of national student associations from universities, polytechnics, and colleges of education, as well as female student leaders and campus coordinators representing all six geopolitical zones of Nigeria.
