The Minister of Power, Adebayo Adelabu, has assured Nigerians that providing constant, reliable, and sustainable electricity will be the Federal Government’s top priority in 2026.

The assurance was contained in a statement issued in Abuja by his Special Adviser on Strategic Communications and Media Relations, Bolaji Tunji, following the minister’s New Year message to Nigerians and residents of Oyo State.

Adelabu said the government remains fully committed to improving electricity supply across the country to power homes, industries, and businesses. He explained that the plan going forward will focus on continuity, renewed energy, and practical reforms aimed at stabilising the national grid and expanding transmission infrastructure.

According to the minister, the Ministry of Power will intensify collaboration with Electricity Distribution Companies to improve service delivery and ensure that metering programmes reach all communities. He added that the Light Up Nigeria initiative remains a key priority, with special attention on industrial clusters and agricultural hubs to boost economic growth and create jobs.

Adelabu also said renewable energy development will receive strong attention in 2026, with solar and hydropower projects deployed to serve underserved and rural communities.

Reflecting on the past year, the minister described 2025 as a period of careful planning and steady progress in the power sector despite existing challenges. He noted that improvements were recorded in strengthening the national grid and enhancing overall system stability.

He further stated that the Presidential Power Initiative, also known as the Siemens deal, has played a major role in reducing the frequent grid collapses experienced in previous years. According to him, the ongoing first phase of the initiative is expected to deliver a more resilient grid, making power disturbances less frequent.

The minister thanked Nigerians for their patience and resilience, stressing that public support remains essential to building a strong and dependable energy sector. He called for cooperation among governments, communities, the private sector, and citizens to ensure successful reforms.

Adelabu also urged Nigerians to protect electricity infrastructure and adopt energy-efficient practices, describing both as important national responsibilities.

While extending New Year greetings to residents of Oyo State, the minister said 2026 would bring visible improvements in the power sector, thanking them for their continued support and encouragement in his role at the national level.
