The Nigerian Meteorological Agency (NiMet) has issued a fresh weather advisory, forecasting a three-day spell of “rainfall and thunderstorms” across several parts of the country, starting from “Saturday, June 15”.

According to the agency’s latest Weather Outlook released in Abuja on Friday, early morning thunderstorms are expected to hit parts of */Taraba, Kebbi, Zamfara, Kaduna, and Adamawa States in the northern region.

NiMet further noted that the intensity of the weather will increase later in the day, with widespread thunderstorms accompanied by rain projected over Kebbi, Taraba, Zamfara, Borno, Kaduna, Sokoto, Gombe, and Bauchi States.

“Residents in these areas should be prepared for localised flooding, especially in low-lying areas. Thunderstorm-related hazards such as strong winds and lightning strikes are also likely,” NiMet warned.

NiMet urged residents in affected states to stay informed via official updates, avoid flood-prone areas during heavy rains, and secure property that could be damaged by strong winds.

Agencies on Alert

The National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) and state disaster management offices have been advised to remain on high alert, especially in communities previously affected by flash floods or erosion.

Experts are also warning farmers in the North-East and North-West regions to take protective measures against potential damage to crops during the heavy downpours.
