The Federal High Court in Abuja has rejected Nnamdi Kanu’s request to be moved from the Sokoto Correctional Facility to either Kuje Prison in Abuja or Keffi Prison in Nasarawa State.

Kanu had filed an ex-parte application through the Legal Aid Council, asking the court to grant the transfer without hearing from the Federal Government. He wanted an order directing the government or the Nigerian Correctional Service (NCoS) to immediately relocate him to a custodial centre within the court’s jurisdiction.

As an alternative, he requested to be moved to a nearby correctional facility, such as Suleja or Keffi, to enable him effectively pursue his constitutional right of appeal.

However, Justice James Omotosho refused the ex-parte application on Monday, saying it was in the interest of justice for all parties to be heard. He ordered Kanu to convert the ex-parte application into a motion on notice and serve it on all relevant parties.

The court then fixed January 27, 2026 for the hearing of the motion.

This comes a week after the same judge declined to entertain submissions from Kanu’s younger brother, Prince Emmanuel, who attempted to appear on his behalf despite not being a lawyer.
