Plateau Governor Mutfwang Resigns from PDP, Set to Join APC

Caleb Mutfwang, the Governor of Plateau State, has officially announced his resignation from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), signaling a major political shift ahead of his expected defection to the All Progressives Congress (APC).

In a letter addressed to the PDP Ward Chairman in Ampang West, Mangu Local Government Area, Mutfwang stated that his decision to leave the PDP was driven by his desire to find a political platform that would enable him to offer “purposeful leadership” to the people of Plateau State.

The letter, dated December 29, 2025, reads:

“I write to formally notify you of my resignation from the PDP with immediate effect. I sincerely appreciate the PDP for providing me with the political platform to participate in the democratic process.”

This move comes as a significant shift in the state’s political landscape, with many speculating that Mutfwang’s defection to the APC is imminent. His departure from the PDP has raised questions about the future direction of the state’s leadership and the impact on party dynamics as the 2027 general elections draw closer.

Mutfwang, who has held the governorship office since 2023, has not yet publicly confirmed the timing of his move to the APC, but sources close to the governor suggest that the official defection could happen soon.

The PDP has yet to respond to Mutfwang’s resignation, but his exit could signal further realignments within the Plateau State political scene as various factions seek to position themselves for the coming election cycle.

As the political landscape continues to evolve, all eyes will be on Mutfwang’s next move, and the ramifications it could have on both the APC and PDP in Plateau State.
