The Kebbi State Police Command has arrested a 30-year-old man, Suleman Mamuda, over the alleged killing of his wife, Umaima Maidawa, aged 25, in Bayawa Village, Augie Local Government Area of the state.

The Police Public Relations Officer, SP Bashir Usman, disclosed this in a statement issued in Birnin Kebbi on Friday. He said the incident occurred on Monday at about 6:30 a.m.

According to the police, Mamuda allegedly struck his wife with the wooden handle of a hoe, which led to her death.

Usman explained that the suspect escaped from the area shortly after the incident. He said police officers later tracked him down and effected his arrest following an investigation and reliable information provided by members of the community.

“The suspect fled the area after the incident but was later traced and arrested following police investigation and credible information received from members of the community,” Usman said.

The police spokesman added that the Commissioner of Police in the state, Umar Mohammed-Hadejia, has ordered that the matter be transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department.

“The Commissioner of Police in the state, Mr Umar Mohammed-Hadejia, has directed that the case to be transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) for discreet investigation and prosecution,” Usman said.

He also called on residents to assist security agencies by reporting incidents promptly. He urged members of the public to continue to support law enforcement efforts aimed at sustaining peace and security across Kebbi State.
