The Ondo State Police Command has sent operatives to Akotogbo community in Irele Local Government Area following the discovery of the bodies of two residents found in a bush within the area.
The deceased were identified as Loyinmi Bode and Andrew Friday. Reports indicated that the bodies were discovered at separate locations within the community in incidents that occurred within one month.
The development has created fear among residents of the agrarian community, who have called on security agencies and the state government to take urgent action to restore safety.
The Police Public Relations Officer, Abayomi Jimoh, said the command had taken steps to address the situation and restore calm in the affected area.
“The command is fully aware of these developments and remains resolute in its constitutional mandate of protecting the lives and property of all law-abiding residents of Ondo State,” he said.
He further stated that security deployments now cover Akotogbo and surrounding communities to prevent further unrest.
“In response, robust security measures have been emplaced within Akotogbo and its adjoining communities to prevent any breakdown of law and order and ensure sustained public safety,” Jimoh said.
The police also said efforts were ongoing to identify those responsible for the deaths, as well as ensure their arrest and prosecution.
