The Kaduna State Police Command has launched a full-scale investigation into a political meeting allegedly linked to former governor, Mallam Nasir El-Rufai, which reportedly turned violent.
According to reports, the gathering, held in Kaduna, degenerated into chaos with sporadic gunshots that left residents in panic. Although details of casualties or arrests have not been confirmed, eyewitnesses said the violence disrupted nearby businesses and forced many people to flee the area.
Police spokesperson ASP Mansir Hassan confirmed the development, saying security operatives have restored normalcy while investigations are ongoing to determine the cause of the violence and those responsible.
The command warned political actors against holding meetings capable of breaching public peace, stressing that no individual or group would be allowed to destabilize the state.
The incident has fueled debate over rising political tension in Kaduna as the 2027 election season draws closer.
