The Kano State Police Command has rescued a two-year-old boy who was abducted in the state and taken into captivity.

Authorities also confirmed the arrest of three suspects in connection with the incident, while a large portion of the ransom paid by the child’s family has been recovered.

Details of the operation were disclosed in a statement issued on Friday by the Police Public Relations Officer, Abdullahi Haruna Kiyawa, on behalf of the Commissioner of Police.

The statement explained that the incident was first reported on April 19 by a resident of Gwammaja Quarters in Dala Local Government Area. The complainant said his son, Aliyu Muhammad, aged two, was taken by unidentified individuals in front of their residence.

The abductors later reached out to the family and demanded a ransom of ₦1 million. Despite receiving the payment, they did not release the child.

Following the report, the Commissioner of Police, Ibrahim Adamu Bakori, directed the Anti-Kidnapping Squad to intensify efforts to locate the suspects. The team deployed intelligence and operational strategies to track them down.

Police investigations eventually led to the discovery of the suspects’ hideout, where three individuals were apprehended.

“Those in custody are Hassan Umar, 26; Abdullahi Hamisu, 19; and Hussaini Saminu, 24, all residents of Gwammaja Quarters.”

According to the statement, the abducted child was found at the residence of one of the suspects, identified as Hussaini Saminu.

The boy was rescued safely and has since been reunited with his family.

The police also recovered ₦930,000, which is believed to be part of the ransom collected by the kidnappers.

The Commissioner of Police commended the Anti-Kidnapping Squad for their performance. He described the operation as one carried out with professionalism, resilience, and tactical precision, which ensured the safe recovery of the child.

He further acknowledged the support and technical input from the Office of the Inspector-General of Police, Olatunji Rilwan Disu, noting that it contributed significantly to the success of the mission.

The CP warned that Kano State would remain hostile to criminal activities and individuals involved in crime.

He added that the Command would continue to pursue and prosecute offenders using all legal means available.

The statement also urged parents and guardians to stay alert and promptly report any suspicious movements or activities to security agencies.
