Power Cut at AKTH ICU Leads to Death of Three Patients
Share on FacebookShare on Twitter

The Aminu Kano Teaching Hospital (AKTH) has confirmed the death of three patients in its Intensive Care Unit (ICU) after the hospital’s electricity supply was disconnected by the Kano Electricity Distribution Company (KEDCO).

The hospital’s Chief Information Officer, Hauwa Inuwa Dutse, disclosed the development to Daily Trust on Monday, describing the incident as tragic and avoidable.

According to her, the disruption in power supply crippled critical equipment at the ICU, leading to the loss of the patients whose conditions required uninterrupted medical support.

The hospital management said it is engaging KEDCO and relevant authorities to prevent such a situation from recurring, while also urging for improved prioritization of power supply to health facilities across the country.

The deaths have sparked outrage among residents and advocacy groups, who are demanding accountability from both the hospital and the electricity distribution company.
