A public affairs analyst and All Progressives Congress (APC) chieftain, Habib Dawanan, has alleged that the Presidency is pressuring Kano State Governor Abba Yusuf to appoint Murtala Garo as deputy governor.
Dawanan made the claim in a recent statement, saying the alleged pressure is coming from the administration of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.
He described the alleged move as a “direct assault on the rule of law,” arguing that installing Garo—who he described as an embattled figure—could grant him constitutional immunity and interfere with ongoing legal matters.
According to him, the nomination would amount to a “glaring double standard” and could undermine public trust in governance and legislative processes.
Dawanan also warned that such a decision would “ridicule the office of the governor and compromise the integrity of the legislature,” urging that Governor Yusuf be allowed to freely choose his deputy without external interference.
He added that the independence of state institutions and the “sanctity of governance” must be protected.
