Satguru Maharaj Ji Offers to Help Free Nnamdi Kanu — But Only If Biafra Radio, Sit-At-Home Stop

Satguru Maharaj Ji, founder of the One Love Family, says he is willing to help secure the release of Nnamdi Kanu — but only if the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) end Biafra Radio and suspend the sit-at-home directive.

Speaking on his temple’s in-house radio on Wednesday, Maharaj Ji said Kanu was legally convicted of terrorism, noting that the charges against him ordinarily carry the death penalty. He added that Kanu survived the death sentence “only by grace,” and insisted his freedom can now only come through political negotiation.

Maharaj Ji said those calling for Kanu’s release must show seriousness by halting Biafra Radio operations, ending the sit-at-home order, and accepting the judgment. He urged Igbo elders to engage the President privately to advance political settlement.

According to him, President Bola Tinubu has given the South-East more political relevance, a move he claims has sparked dissatisfaction within the northern establishment. He advised that propaganda about attempts to Islamise the East should also stop.

Maharaj Ji expressed confidence that if these conditions are met, he can help facilitate Kanu’s release, assuring the region that “all hope is not lost.”

He joins Abia State Governor Alex Otti, activist Omoyele Sowore, and other South-East leaders pushing for a political resolution. Otti had visited Kanu in the Sokoto prison before meeting President Tinubu on Tuesday in Abuja as part of ongoing efforts.

Kanu is currently serving a life sentence after Justice James Omotosho convicted him on all seven counts of terrorism. He also received a 20-year sentence on one count and a five-year sentence on another, both without the option of a fine.
