The Social Democratic Party (SDP) has confirmed that its former National Chairman, Shehu Gabam, remains expelled and is no longer a member of the party.
The party also stated that Sadiq Gombe continues to serve as the current National Chairman.
This clarification was made in a statement issued in Abuja by the party’s National Publicity Secretary, Rufus Aiyenigba, following confusion over recent rulings by the Court of Appeal.
According to the SDP, the court decisions were related only to disputes from the Ekiti State governorship primary held on August 8, 2025, as well as issues in Osun State, and had nothing to do with the party’s leadership.
The party accused Gabam of misrepresenting the rulings to mislead the public and regain political relevance, warning that false information could be accepted as truth if not corrected.
On Gabam’s status, the SDP explained that he was first suspended in June 2025 and later expelled in October 2025 over alleged financial misconduct. His expulsion was also confirmed by the party’s National Executive Committee on March 9, 2026, during a meeting observed by the electoral body.
The party further stated that Gabam is currently facing criminal charges over the alleged misuse of party funds.
