Seven persons were feared dead after a fatal road accident along the Malam Madori–Hadejia Road in Jigawa State on Monday night.

The crash reportedly occurred around 9:45 p.m. at Kashin Dila Junction. It involved a Toyota Starlet and a black Mercedes-Benz GLK.

Sources told journalists that the Toyota Starlet, driven by Adamu Dakido, was transporting passengers from Hadejia to Malam Madori when it collided head-on with the GLK vehicle.

“The GLK was carrying the Chairman of Kafin Hausa Local Government Area and his driver, who were travelling from Gumel to Kafin Hausa at the time of the crash,” an eyewitness said.

Another source disclosed that the collision claimed the lives of all six occupants of the Toyota Starlet at the scene.

“All six occupants of the Toyota Starlet died on the spot due to the force of the crash,” the source said.

The source added, “The driver of the Mercedes-Benz GLK also reportedly died instantly at the scene.”

The Chairman of Kafin Hausa Local Government Area reportedly survived the accident but sustained injuries. He was taken to a hospital for treatment.

Police patrol officers later arrived at the scene and evacuated the injured chairman alongside the bodies of the deceased victims to the General Hospital in Hadejia.

Efforts to obtain official confirmation from the spokesperson of the Jigawa State Police Command, SP Shi’isu Adam, were unsuccessful as telephone calls placed to him were not answered.

However, a police source confirmed that the incident occurred and stated that an investigation had begun.

“The police have commenced investigation into the cause of the accident. Our officers were on the ground to evacuate the victims and secure the scene,” the source said.
