Soldiers’ ₦5,000 Feeding Allowance, ₦100,000 Salary Too Poor – Ndume

Former Senate Leader, Ali Ndume, has raised concerns over the poor welfare of Nigerian soldiers, describing their current allowances and salaries as grossly inadequate for men putting their lives on the line to defend the country.

Speaking on Thursday, Ndume lamented that soldiers receive only ₦5,000 daily as feeding allowance and a monthly salary of about ₦100,000, figures he said are demoralising considering the risks they face in the fight against insurgency and insecurity.

“How can we expect soldiers to give their best when their welfare is treated this way? A man who risks his life on the battlefield deserves better than ₦5,000 to feed in a day and ₦100,000 at the end of the month,” Ndume said.

The lawmaker called on the Federal Government to urgently review the remuneration of security personnel to reflect the gravity of their sacrifices and the rising cost of living.

His comments come amid renewed debates over military funding and the need to strengthen the morale of troops battling insecurity across different parts of Nigeria.
