Former Sokoto State governor and senator representing Sokoto South, Aminu Waziri Tambuwal, has called on the Federal Government to broaden its ongoing military operations against terrorists, warning that the fight against insecurity must not be limited to recent air strikes carried out in Sokoto State.

Tambuwal made the call while reacting to the latest security operations targeting terrorist enclaves in parts of the state. While commending the federal authorities and the military for the renewed offensive, the senator stressed that sustained and nationwide action is required to effectively dismantle terrorist networks across the country.

According to him, isolated strikes, no matter how successful, will not be enough to end the persistent threat posed by armed groups operating across state borders.

“The ongoing operations are commendable, but they must not stop in Sokoto. Terrorism is not confined to one state, and our response must reflect that reality,” Tambuwal said.

He urged the Federal Government to intensify coordinated security actions in other affected regions, particularly in the North-West and North-Central zones, where communities continue to face attacks, kidnappings and displacement.

Tambuwal also called for stronger international collaboration, noting that terrorism has transnational dimensions that require intelligence sharing, advanced surveillance, and logistical support from global partners.

“Nigeria must deepen its engagement with the international community. The fight against terrorism today depends heavily on technology, intelligence cooperation and global support,” he added.

The senator further emphasized the need to complement military efforts with socio-economic interventions, including addressing poverty, unemployment and governance gaps, which he described as underlying factors fueling insecurity.

In recent weeks, the Nigerian Air Force has carried out targeted air strikes on suspected terrorist hideouts in parts of Sokoto State, as the Federal Government intensifies efforts to curb the activities of armed groups across the country.

Despite these efforts, security challenges persist in several regions, prompting renewed calls from lawmakers and stakeholders for a more comprehensive, sustained and multi-layered national security strategy.
