Bola Tinubu has said that Nigeria’s fuel price is still cheaper compared to Kenya and several other African countries, despite the economic hardship facing citizens.

He made the statement during a speech on Thursday while visiting Bayelsa State for a project commissioning.

The president admitted that Nigerians are struggling with the rising cost of fuel but encouraged citizens to see the situation from a wider perspective.

He said:

“Yes, I hear you from the angles of the economy; the fuel prices are biting hard. But look around; let’s thank God together that we are better off than those in Kenya and other African countries.”

According to checks reported, fuel prices in Kenya were about $1.37 per litre (around N1,862) as of April 2026.

The report also noted that in Nigeria, fuel prices have recently risen to between N1,290 and N1,350 per litre due to global crude oil price changes.

It added that rising crude oil prices, reportedly between $95 and $100 per barrel, have affected fuel costs globally.

In the past weeks, petroleum marketers, depot owners, and the Dangote Refinery have adjusted pump prices in response to international market pressures.
