President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has appointed Dr Olugbemisola Titilayo Odusote as the new Director-General of the Nigerian Law School, making her the first woman to hold the position since the institution was established in 1962.

The appointment was announced on Tuesday by the President’s Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga. According to the statement, Odusote’s tenure will begin on January 10, 2026, and will last for four years.

Dr Odusote, who is 54 years old, is currently the Deputy Director-General of the Nigerian Law School and Head of its Lagos Campus. She will succeed Professor Isa Hayatu Chiroma, whose eight-year tenure as Director-General ends on January 9, 2026.

Odusote earned her Bachelor of Laws (LL.B.) degree from Obafemi Awolowo University and was called to the Nigerian Bar in 1988. She also obtained a Master’s degree in Law (LL.M.) from the same university, specialising in company and commercial law. She later earned a PhD in Law from the University of Surrey in the United Kingdom, with research interests in public law and the administration of justice.

She joined the Nigerian Law School in 2001 as a lecturer and has since held several key positions, including Head of the Academic Department, Director of Academics, and Head of Campus. She was also a visiting scholar at Nottingham Trent University in the UK.

As Director-General, she will oversee the academic leadership, administration, and strategic direction of the Nigerian Law School across all its campuses. She will also serve as the main link between the Law School, the Council of Legal Education, the Body of Benchers, and the Nigerian Bar Association.
