President Bola Tinubu has formally requested the Senate to confirm the appointments of the newly named service chiefs.

The request was contained in a letter addressed to Senate President Godswill Akpabio and read during Tuesday’s plenary session in Abuja.

Those listed for confirmation include General Olufemi Oluyede as Chief of Defence Staff, Major-General Waheedi Shaibu as Chief of Army Staff, Rear Admiral Idi Abbas as Chief of Naval Staff, Air Vice Marshal Kennedy Aneke as Chief of Air Staff, and Major-General Emmanuel Undiendeye as Chief of Defence Intelligence.

In his letter, President Tinubu urged the Senate to give prompt consideration and approval to the nominations, emphasizing the importance of maintaining stability and efficiency within the armed forces.

The request has been referred to the Committee of the Whole, which is expected to conduct the screening and confirmation of the nominees next week.
