President Bola Tinubu’s delegation, led by Minister of Foreign Affairs Yusuf Tuggar, has begun official consultations with the United Kingdom government over the continued imprisonment of former Deputy Senate President, Ike Ekweremadu.

The discussions focus on the possibility of transferring Ekweremadu to Nigeria to serve the remainder of his jail term, following his conviction by a UK court for organ harvesting earlier in 2023.

On arrival in the UK, the Nigerian delegation met with the British Ministers of Foreign Affairs and Justice to present Nigeria’s request and explore the legal and diplomatic frameworks for a possible transfer agreement. The team is also expected to hold additional meetings with other key UK officials in the coming days.

Confirming the development to Arise Television, Alkasim AbdulKadir, spokesman to Minister Yusuf Tuggar, said the consultations were ongoing.

“An appeal for prisoner exchange for him to serve the remainder of his term in Nigeria was tabled before the United Kingdom authorities,” AbdulKadir stated.
