Pastor Enoch Adeboye, General Overseer of the Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG), has shared how he handled expensive gifts during the early days of his ministry.
He spoke during a recent church thanksgiving service, where he recounted receiving a Mercedes-Benz from an elderly woman at a time when he was still travelling by bus.
According to him, he did not know what to do with the car and left it unused for a while. He later had a dream that made him reconsider his decision. In the dream, he felt he was being questioned for not accepting the woman’s gift fully.
He said the message was: “Why are you robbing my daughter of her blessing? She sowed a seed, and you are not allowing the seed to germinate.”
Following that experience, he decided to release the car. He gave it to his late deputy, Pastor Abiodun, who encouraged him to enjoy the gift instead. However, Pastor Adeboye chose to pass it on.
He revealed that after that incident, he surprisingly received three more Mercedes-Benz cars.
In another instance, he said a man arrived at his house around 2:00 a.m. with a rare six-door Mercedes limousine, claiming it was sent by God. Pastor Adeboye said he was initially shocked.
“I almost said, ‘Alakoba wo le leyi?’ I hope this one is not trying to get me into trouble,” he recalled.
After praying about it, he felt at peace to sell the limousine.
“Even if I die and they put me in this car, I will wake up. Will you permit me to sell the car?” he said.
He eventually sold the luxury vehicle and used the proceeds to buy motorcycles for his pastors, explaining that he preferred to redirect such gifts toward supporting the work of the ministry rather than keeping them for personal use.
