A middle-aged woman identified as Oluwasola Adebayo has died after she reportedly collapsed while accompanying her child to a Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME) centre in Ilara-Mokin, Ifedore Local Government Area of Ondo State.
Channels Television reported that the incident happened on Tuesday and caused panic in the community. Eyewitnesses said she appeared weak shortly after arriving near the examination venue before she fell.
She was confirmed dead at the scene despite efforts by bystanders to revive her. Her child was said to have been inside the examination hall at the time of the incident, unaware of what had happened outside.
Residents described the scene as distressing, with people gathering in shock after news of her sudden death spread across the area. The cause of death had not been officially confirmed at the time of this report.
The spokesperson of the Ondo State Police Command, DSP Abayomi Jimoh, confirmed the incident. He said “authorities were notified of the sudden death in the community.”
He further stated that “the family of the deceased had been contacted and, following verification, her remains were released to a relative who identified himself as Apapa Olamilekan, an officer of the Nigeria Legion in Akure.”
The tragedy occurred during the ongoing nationwide UTME exercise. The examination began on Thursday across the country, with over 2.2 million candidates taking part in 966 accredited Computer-Based Test centres. The exercise runs from April 16 to April 22 in multiple daily sessions from 8:30am to 6pm.
