2026 Grammys: VeryDarkMan Explains Why He Wanted Davido to Win

Nigerian social media influencer Vincent Martins Otse, popularly known as VeryDarkMan (VDM), has reacted to Tyla’s win in the Best African Music Performance category at the 2026 Grammy Awards.

Tyla, a South African singer, won the award with her song Push 2 Start, beating Nigerian stars Ayra Starr, Wizkid, Burna Boy, Omah Lay, and Davido. This victory marked her second win in the category after she first won with Water in 2024.

After Tyla was announced as the winner, VDM released a video questioning her win. He said he would have preferred Davido to win the award to create a “balance” among the Afrobeats Big 3, since Burna Boy and Wizkid have already won Grammys.

VDM also praised Davido, Burna Boy, Ayra Starr, and Wizkid for their efforts, saying Nigerian songs nominated in the category were very strong. However, he admitted that the result was final and had to be accepted.

“Tyla again? Anyways, shoutout to Davido, Burna Boy, Ayra starr and Wizkid. You guys put in the efforts.”

“However, I will be very honest, I really wanted Davido to win so as to create balance. I like the cruise between the fans of the Afrobeats Big 3 on social media.”

“The entries from Nigeria were very good songs but it is what it is,” he said.

It is also worth noting that only female artists have won the Best African Music Performance category at the Grammys so far.
