The All Nigeria Peoples Party (ANPP) bloc within the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) has insisted that the vice-presidential slot for the 2027 general elections must remain within its ranks.
The bloc, which identifies itself as the second most influential force in the 2013 merger that gave birth to the APC, has expressed deep dissatisfaction over what it describes as years of marginalisation within the party’s power structure.
In a strongly worded statement, ANPP leaders cautioned President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and the APC leadership against fielding a vice-presidential candidate from outside the bloc, warning that failure to acknowledge their contribution could force them to reconsider their membership in the party.
“The ANPP bloc cannot continue to be treated as irrelevant while its electoral strength and grassroots network are exploited during elections,” a senior member said.
The development adds to the growing internal tensions within the APC as political alignments begin to shift ahead of the 2027 polls. Party insiders say reconciliation efforts may be necessary to prevent further cracks in the coalition.
