Independent National Electoral Commission has released a revised timetable for the 2027 general elections, introducing new dates for key polls across the country.
Under the updated schedule, presidential and National Assembly elections will now take place on January 16, 2027. The commission also fixed February 6, 2027, for governorship elections and contests into State Houses of Assembly.
The electoral body had earlier planned to conduct the presidential and National Assembly polls on February 20, 2027. Governorship and state assembly elections were initially set for March 6, 2027.
INEC said the adjustment followed recent legal changes. The review became necessary after the repeal of the Electoral Act, 2022, and the enactment of the new Electoral Act, 2026.
The commission noted that the updated timetable is part of efforts to align the electoral process with the current legal framework.
