Los Angeles Rams wide receiver Puka Nacua is facing a civil lawsuit in Los Angeles after being accused of making antisemitic remarks and physically assaulting a woman during a New Year’s Eve gathering. The case, filed by Madison Atiabi and her attorney Joseph Kar, alleges gender violence and negligence.
Atiabi, who is Jewish, claims Nacua said “fuck all Jews” during a dinner on December 31. She states the comment caused immediate emotional distress. Later that night, she alleges Nacua bit her shoulder, leaving visible teeth marks. The lawsuit further accuses Nacua of biting Atiabi’s friend on the thumb with enough force to cause severe pain.
Nacua’s attorney, Levi McCathern, has rejected the allegations. He insists multiple witnesses confirm Nacua never made antisemitic remarks. McCathern characterized the biting incidents as “horseplay” and announced that Nacua intends to countersue Atiabi for defamation. He emphasized that his client will pursue all available legal remedies to challenge what he described as false and damaging claims.
This is not the first time Nacua has faced controversy. In December, he apologized after performing a gesture on a livestream that drew criticism for playing on antisemitic stereotypes.
Despite the off-field issues, Nacua has quickly established himself as one of the NFL’s top receivers. In the 2025 season, he led the league with 129 receptions, totaling 1,715 yards and 10 touchdowns. He continued his dominance in the playoffs, recording 24 catches for 332 yards and two touchdowns. His performance has positioned him as a cornerstone of the Rams’ offense.
At 24 years old, Nacua is eligible for a contract extension this offseason. Given his production, he is expected to command one of the richest deals ever offered to a wide receiver. However, the Rams have not announced progress on negotiations. The lawsuit adds uncertainty to his future, potentially complicating discussions about his long-term role with the franchise.
The case highlights the tension between Nacua’s rising career and the serious allegations against him. While his attorney maintains the accusations are unfounded, the lawsuit ensures the matter will remain in public view. For the Rams, the situation comes at a delicate time as they weigh both the player’s value on the field and the reputational risks off it.
