The Nigeria Police Force has refuted claims of a terrorist attack in Abuja after a video circulating online raised alarm among residents.
In a statement released on Friday, April 10, 2026, the police described the footage as deceptive and intended to mislead the public about the security situation in the Federal Capital Territory.
According to the Force, the video was created using unrelated clips to give a false impression of an ongoing attack.
“The claims contained in the video are entirely false, misleading, and malicious,” the police said.
The statement explained that early findings indicate the content was crafted to create fear and weaken public trust in security agencies within the nation’s capital.
Police authorities also confirmed that a suspect, identified as Pam Joseph, has been taken into custody in connection with the video. The arrest followed intelligence efforts and digital forensic investigations.
“The arrest followed credible intelligence and digital forensic investigations linking the suspect to the origin and circulation of the video,” the statement added.
The Force reminded citizens that freedom of expression does not permit the spread of false information that could threaten public order or national security.
Residents were advised to verify information before sharing it. The police warned against spreading unconfirmed reports that may cause panic.
The statement added that the suspect will face prosecution after investigations are completed. The Force also reaffirmed its commitment to monitoring online platforms and taking action against those who circulate misleading content.
