Arsenal and Bayern Munich have secured places in the semi-finals of the UEFA Champions League after overcoming Sporting and Real Madrid respectively.
The Gunners progressed after a goalless draw against Sporting on Wednesday night at the Emirates Stadium. The Premier League side had taken a narrow advantage into the second leg after a 1-0 win in Portugal, where Kai Havertz scored a late goal.
Both teams created limited chances in the return leg, with efforts striking the woodwork but neither side managing to find the net. The result was enough for Arsenal to move on to the next round.
Arsenal will now face Atletico Madrid, who knocked out Barcelona in their own quarter-final tie.
In the other fixture, Bayern Munich edged Real Madrid with a 4-3 victory at the Allianz Arena. The German champions had already gained the upper hand with a 1-0 win in the first leg at the Santiago Bernabeu.
The aggregate result confirmed Bayern’s progression and ended Real Madrid’s campaign in the competition.
Bayern Munich are set to meet Paris Saint-Germain in the semi-finals, with both teams aiming for a place in the final.
