The price of Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) has surged to N450 per standard cubic metre (SCM) following the Federal Government’s withdrawal of subsidies, doubling from the previous N230

Our correspondent gathered from retailers that the price adjustment was recently approved by government regulators, leading to widespread complaints from motorists and households relying on CNG as an alternative to petrol.

The development has already triggered long queues at the few available refilling stations, with many operators lamenting insufficient infrastructure to meet growing demand.

Analysts warn that the new price hike could dampen adoption of CNG — once promoted by the government as a cheaper, cleaner fuel option — unless urgent measures are taken to expand supply networks and stabilise pricing.
