Nigerian singer Waje has revealed that she never received any payment for her vocals on P-Square’s 2007 hit song “Do Me.”

Speaking on the HonestBunch Podcast, Waje said the collaboration, which helped introduce her to the public, did not come with any financial reward or official recognition.

“I didn’t earn a dime from P-Square’s Do Me,” she said, recalling the experience with a laugh.

The song, featured on P-Square’s Game Over album, became one of the biggest hits of the late 2000s, with Waje’s powerful voice playing a major role in its success.

Waje, whose real name is Aituaje Iruobe, said many people didn’t believe she was the female voice behind the popular track.

“Imagine being in Onitsha market and telling people that’s my voice whenever Do Me is played, and they look at you like, ‘Who are you?’ They didn’t believe me,” she said.

She explained that the experience taught her an important lesson about having proper agreements and getting credit for her work — especially as a young artist just starting out.

Waje also revealed that she didn’t appear in the Do Me music video because she didn’t have a passport at the time of filming, which made it harder for people to recognize her as part of the song.

Although she felt overlooked at the time, Waje said the experience pushed her to focus on her solo career and take control of her music.

Now regarded as one of Nigeria’s most respected vocalists, Waje said the Do Me experience reminds her of how far she has come and the struggles young artists often face in the Nigerian music industry.
