The deepening turmoil within the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) took a dramatic turn on Tuesday as a faction of the party’s National Executive Committee (NEC), aligned with the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, announced the expulsion of several high-ranking party figures.

In an unprecedented move, the faction declared Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde, Bauchi State Governor Bala Mohammed, and Zamfara State Governor Dauda Lawal expelled from the party. The internal bloc also listed former Chairman of the PDP Board of Trustees, Senator Adolphus Wabara, and former Deputy National Chairman, Chief Bode George, among those removed.

Also included in the purge was the party’s newly elected National Chairman, Kabiru Tanimu Turaki, SAN — a development that has sent shockwaves through Nigeria’s political circles and intensified uncertainty about the party’s future.

The Wike-aligned faction did not immediately provide detailed reasons for the expulsions, but insiders suggest the move is part of a growing power struggle within the party, pitting loyalists of the FCT Minister against other influential blocs.

Tuesday’s announcement marks one of the most significant escalations in the PDP’s internal conflict since the conclusion of the last election cycle, raising concerns about the party’s cohesion ahead of upcoming political contests.
