Naomi Osaka plays her second-round match at the 2026 Australian Open.
She beats Sorana Cirstea 6-3, 4-6, 6-2.
Osaka does not wear her jellyfish-inspired outfit this time.
Her fashion choices create mixed reactions. Some people praise them, while others criticize them.
Boris Becker calls her outfit “iconic” but says it is a contradiction.
People still remember when Osaka skipped press conferences at the 2021 French Open. She later says she struggles with depression.
Since then, she attends almost all media briefings.
Osaka has not won a major title since 2021, but she returns to top form last year by reaching the US Open semi-finals.
Against Cirstea, Osaka struggles with her baseline shots and an abdominal issue. She takes a medical timeout.
In the final set, she hits strong, clean shots and closes the match.
During the match, Osaka shouts “C’mon” after a missed serve from Cirstea. Cirstea complains to the umpire, saying it disturbs her.
The umpire says Osaka does not break any rules.
Osaka wins the next points with loud screams. Cirstea gives her a cold handshake and accuses her of not knowing fair play.
In her interview, Osaka says Cirstea is angry about her “C’mons.”
Later, Osaka admits she feels disrespected but also apologizes for her own words.
She explains that her shouts are only to motivate herself, not to distract her opponent.
Osaka will face Madison Inglis in round three. If she wins, she may meet Iga Swiatek in round four.
