Manchester United interim manager Michael Carrick is closing in on a Premier League record after guiding his side to a thrilling 3-2 victory over league leaders Arsenal at the Emirates Stadium on Sunday.

United, who had drawn 1-1 at halftime, produced a stunning second-half performance to secure all three points, with goals from Bryan Mbeumo, Patrick Dorgu, and substitute Matheus Cunha.

The win marks Carrick’s second consecutive victory in charge of the Red Devils, a feat rarely achieved in a manager’s first two games.

Arsenal had taken the lead in the 29th minute through Dutch defender Jurrien Timber, whose slick finish followed a well-coordinated attack involving Bukayo Saka and Piero Hincapie.

However, United responded just eight minutes later when Mbeumo capitalised on a defensive error from Arsenal’s Zubimendi to level the score.

In the second half, Dorgu, continuing his fine form from last weekend’s 2-0 win over Manchester City, fired a left-footed strike from the edge of the box to make it 2-1 in the 51st minute.

Dorgu later exited with a hamstring injury, making way for Cunha, who would prove decisive.

With the Emirates crowd silenced, Cunha unleashed a thunderous 25-yard strike in the 90th minute to restore United’s lead and seal the victory.

Arsenal’s Mikel Merino had briefly equalised in the 84th minute following a corner from Saka, but Cunha’s late strike ensured the Red Devils claimed the spoils.

The result boosts Manchester United to fourth in the Premier League table, leading Chelsea by one point.

Arsenal’s lead at the top of the table was reduced to four points.
