Troops of the 6 Brigade of the Nigerian Army, operating under Sector 3 of Operation Whirl Stroke (OPWS), have rescued a kidnapped victim during ongoing military operations within the brigade’s area of responsibility.

The rescue took place on 27 January 2026 at Dogon Gawa in Taraba State. Soldiers deployed to the area spotted a man who had been abandoned in the bush by his abductors. He was later identified as Mr Ghali.

Investigations by the troops revealed that Mr Ghali had been kidnapped alongside another victim, Mr Simon Oluchukwu, on 11 January 2026. The abduction occurred at Gbise Village in Mbayonga area of Benue State. During the incident, the driver conveying the victims was killed by the kidnappers.

After his rescue, Mr Ghali was debriefed by the troops and given medical attention. He was later reunited with his family.

The Commander of 6 Brigade Nigerian Army and Sector 3 OPWS, Brigadier General Kingsley Chidiebere Uwa, praised the troops for their commitment and professionalism. He said operations in the area would be stepped up to secure the release of the remaining victim and bring those responsible to justice.

Brigadier General Uwa also called on residents to continue to support military efforts by sharing timely and reliable information with security agencies.

The Army said the successful operation reflects the determination of 6 Brigade troops to protect lives and property, as well as their resolve to flush out criminal elements and restore peace across the region.
