Cristiano Ronaldo’s future at Al Nassr has become uncertain following reports that his contract includes a release clause, as tensions continue to grow between the player and the club’s ownership structure.

The 40-year-old forward was absent from Al Nassr’s Saudi Pro League match against Al Riyadh on Monday, with reports stating that he is currently on strike.

Ronaldo is said to be considering leaving the club when the season ends in June. Possible options being discussed include a move to Major League Soccer in the United States or a return to European football.

According to reports, the Portugal captain’s contract contains a release clause valued at €50 million, which could allow him to leave the club if the clause is activated.

Ronaldo is reportedly unhappy with how Al Nassr is being treated by the Saudi Sovereign Wealth Fund, PIF. The state-backed fund acquired majority stakes in Al Nassr, Al Hilal, Al Ittihad, and Al Ahli in 2023.

It is believed that Ronaldo feels PIF is deliberately limiting Al Nassr’s ability to strengthen their squad. He reportedly thinks this is being done to prevent the club from winning the league title, a situation that has contributed to his growing frustration.

The situation has raised fresh questions about Ronaldo’s long-term future in Saudi Arabia, despite his high-profile arrival and importance to the league.
