Atletico Madrid forward Alexander Sørloth has become the latest player to record a hat-trick in this season’s UEFA Champions League.
The Norwegian forward scored three times in Atletico’s dominant 4-1 victory over the Belgian side in the second leg of their Champions League Round of 16 playoff tie at the Metropolitano Stadium in Madrid.
His goals proved decisive as Diego Simeone’s side secured qualification for the Round of 16 proper.
Atletico Madrid had drawn 3-3 in the first leg away from home last week, setting up a tense return fixture. However, the Spanish LaLiga giants produced a more clinical display in front of their fans, progressing with a 7-4 aggregate scoreline over the two legs.
Sørloth now joins a growing list of players who have recorded Champions League hat-tricks this season:
Kylian Mbappé – (Kairat Almaty 0-5 Real Madrid)
Fermín López – (Barcelona 6-1 Olympiacos)
Victor Osimhen – (Ajax 0-3 Galatasaray)
Kylian Mbappé – (Olympiacos 3-4 Real Madrid)
Vitinha – (Paris Saint-Germain 5-3 Tottenham)
Anthony Gordon – (Qarabağ 1-6 Newcastle)
Alexander Sørloth – (Atletico Madrid 4-1 Club Brugge)
